Tips for Posting Video Ads on Instagram

Posted by Jennifer Hampton on Jul 15, 2017 2:15:03 PM

Instagram offers your company a lot when it comes to media rich marketing. And now with Auto-Play Video Ads, you can boost your engagement to new heights. Let’s jump in!

Instagram is one of the newer platforms out there and has over 150 million active monthly users. Primarily a mobile social media site, Instagram thrives on eye-catching pics, video clips, cheeky captions, and relevant hashtags. Users scroll through their news tab and click to ‘love’ a post. Businesses have been very successful in building enormous customer fan bases on Instagram, garnering thousands of ‘loves’ per pic.

The audience on Instagram is, you guessed it, the hippest out there. Over 90% are 35 and younger. Like other photo-heavy platforms, 68% of users are women. Audiences like this, love quality photos that capture cutting edge trends, incorporate humor, or simply highlight beautiful images.

Now that video ads are offered by Instagram, this is the perfect time for your company to get involved. Video ads are extremely effective and enhance ad recall and brand recognition—with just 15 seconds of a well-composed clip.

Keep these four things in mind when posting an Instagram video ad:

1. Angle. If you want to empower your viewers, set the angle higher. Even try experimenting with birds-eye views! A low camera angle near the subject’s feet or floor can have an intimidating effect on viewers.

2. Motion. Since ads are auto-play, you want to capture your audience’s attention in the first moments with movements. Make sure the first frames of your video capture motion to increase the likelihood that users will pause to watch your ad.

3. Pace. Perhaps one of the most important parts of your video is the speed that you adopt. Be purposeful. Are you aiming for a high intensity thriller or a calm and poignant story? All these things affect the mood and tone of your ad. Also, don’t forget that with Instagram looping, your video will begin again right after it finishes.

4. Sound. Instagram users like to be sneaky (think scrolling through the news tab in class or during a bathroom break—we won’t judge). Since sound can often be disrupting in settings like this, video ads play automatically without sound. Yes, you heard, video ads default on silent. Make sure your video is sound neutral. That is, your users can understand your message without sound but can also enjoy the video with sound if desired.

Now that you know the tricks of angle, motion, pace, and sound, watch how your engagement booms on the ever-trendy Instagram with new Auto-Play Video Ads.
